Tag Claude into Slack and it works,” has been in private testing with a handful of enterprise accounts for the past quarter. Internal documents show that the feature required Anthropic to rebuild large portions of Claude’s context architecture to handle real-time threading and permissions scoping within Slack’s existing moderation framework. Engineers close to the project say the core mechanic is straightforward: type `@Claude` in any channel or direct message, and the model responds with full awareness of the conversation history, attached files, and thread participants. Unlike earlier bot integrations that required explicit slash commands or separate channels, Claude Tag operates as if it were another team member—able to be summoned, dismissed, or muted at will. The rollout, however, has been anything but smooth. Multiple beta testers reported that Claude occasionally overwrote previous responses when multiple users tagged it simultaneously, forcing Anthropic to implement a queuing system that locks the model to a single thread until the reply is delivered. The company has not disclosed pricing specifics for the feature, though the tweet suggests it will be available to all paid Slack tiers immediately, with free-tier access still unconfirmed. For enterprise teams already juggling Slack’s native AI features and third-party assistants like Copilot, this could introduce both efficiency and fragmentation—power users will now have to decide which bot to summon for which task. What remains unclear is whether Anthropic will extend Claude Tag to other platforms like Google Chat or Microsoft Teams, but given that the company’s API team is reportedly already scoping integration patterns for Discord and Telegram, today’s launch feels less like a product and more like a positioning statement.
